Monica Moses
~ Monica Moses is an incredible young lady with a remarkable story of healing and triumph. Her mother, Susanna says, "She is living proof that God does answer prayer, He is Faithful in performing His Promises and dreams do come true".
Monica began life a healthy, neuro-typical baby and at the age of 20 months experienced a rapid regression in every aspect of her being. She became non-verbal, unresponsive and mobility impaired. Her prognosis was bleak. Due to the severity of her regression and symptoms, her original diagnosis was Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD). This rare and debilitating disorder is characterized by the late onset of developmental delays in language, social function, and motor skills. CDD basically causes a normally developing child to regress back to an state of an infant, and there they stay. Research has been unsuccessful in finding a cause for the disorder. It has been determined that CDD has many similarities to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and sometimes is considered a low-functioning form of ASD.
CDD is so rare that Susanna was unable to find service providers who could extend medical care for Monica. Susanna sought out neurologists and other medical professionals in hopes they would offer a more "curable" diagnosis. After nearly a year of intensive assessments, testing and observations, she finally received the diagnosis of severe Autism Spectrum Disorder with severe Motor Deficiencies. This diagnosis was common and enabled her to secure services to address the symptoms of Monica's condition. With the help of her ever present and supportive mother, Monica has been able to overcome obstacles, medical crisis and circumstances that would have made adults cower and give up years ago. Monica has proven to be resilient beyond measure and has an innate resolve to conquer adversity.
Through all of her hardships, Monica has developed a sympathetic heart for persons with chronic illnesses and special needs of any nature. Having lived many years non-verbal, she desires to be a representative of other children with special needs and a voice for the millions of people who may never be able to speak. Monica says she thinks God healed her and gave her talents which will enable her "to make money to build orphanages and schools for children who are disabled and unwanted." You may learn more about Monica's astounding talent and phenomenal story in her book, Monica's Silent World. Sofia Moses
~ Little Sofia Moses, born into this creative family just 5 years ago, carries the same artistic gene. Sofia has been active in the performing arts since shortly before her 2nd birthday, but was singing and dancing for family and friends before that. She has also created characters and a story idea which is currently in the works entitled, Nectar the Unique Bumble Bee. Nectar is a 5 year old bumble bee who was born without a stinger and no one knows if he will ever grow one. This makes him fly a little crooked and make a silly noise. He has other friends who also are "different" and they too have been teased. On a Pre-K to 2nd grade level, it teaches about the effects of bullying and the importance of being nice to everyone, despite differences. Sofia has witnessed some teasing of her older sister and other children. She told her mother, Susanna, that she wanted to "talk to other little kids about being nice and not teasing" and that's how Nectar came to be. Her talented sister, Monica is the illustrator and Sofia is the colorist. There are two more titles scheduled for this series, Nectar the Good Listener and Nectar Learns to Share.
